My love for 1970s Japanese television grows every day. This is a clip from "Kamen Rider x", a series about a semi-robotic superhero who fights the evil Japanese corporation known as "G.O.D". In this episode Kamen Rider squares off against starfish Hitler in "Hell's Dictator, Starfish Hitler!!". Apparently throughout the series, Kamen Rider X fought quite a few interesting reincarnations of real life and literary villains. Starfish Hitler was all I could find online at the moment, but I'm seriously considering buying a DVD because there are some really great villains that have not made their way onto youtube like Spider Napoleon, Ant Capone, Genghis Condor, Scorpion Geronimo and of course Scorpion Geronimo Jr.
Mind you, this didn't show on japanese television at 3am, this was a very famous and beloved series. Japanese Astronomer Akimasa Nakamura even named two asteroid belts in honor of the series: 12408 Fujioka and 12796 Kamenrider. There's even been a couple American TV spinoffs, including the awful "Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight" released earlier this year on The CW4Kids. It's a really terrible show, not even good for laughs. I was kind of excited for it, but I should have known it would be a crappy reincarnation of Power Rangers. Nobody creates WTFs like Japan.
...Why do they have to somersault to get anywhere? Why does he need to form an X (ok so he's an X Rider, but still) for the finishing strike? Why is there a floating bar in the sky out of nowehere? Why were they rolling on the ground like that? Just... why?
